Microabrasion

Air abrasion offers another option to conventional methods of decay removal (high-speeds handpieces/drills and burs). This technique involves the use of an air jet containing micro-particles, with microscopic precision, without a deafening noise, without vibration, and oftentimes without local anesthesia. It allows conservation of healthy tooth structure by removing only contaminated areas. It is the ideal method when treating small tooth surface decay. Even when replacing an old filling, little tooth is removed because the majority of the cleaning is done with sand spray. A final advantage is the ability to fix a small part of a broken tooth or filling because the air abrasion improves adherence of a filling.
